Test E: Rear Quarter Window(S) Inoperative
- If description and operation has been reviewed, go to next step. If description and operation has not been reviewed, go to DESCRIPTION & OPERATION
.
- Verify rear quarter windows are inoperative. If rear quarter windows are inoperative, go to next step. If rear quarter windows operate normally, diagnose intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - MONTANA, SILHOUETTE & VENTURE article.
- If only one rear quarter window operates, go to next step. If both rear quarter windows are inoperative, go to step 6
.
- Disconnect inoperative rear quarter window actuator 2-pin harness connector. Using test light connected to ground, probe inoperative rear quarter window actuator harness connector terminal "B" (Brown wire). Press rear quarter window switch to OPEN position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 10
.
- Using test light connected to ground, probe rear quarter window actuator harness connector terminal "A" (Black wire). Press rear quarter window switch to CLOSE position. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 11
. If test light illuminates, go to step 14
.
- Disconnect rear quarter window switch 8-pin harness connector. Using test light connected to ground, probe rear quarter window switch harness connector terminal "E" (Yellow wire). See Fig 1
. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 12
.
- Connect test light between rear quarter window switch harness connector terminals "B" (Black wire) and "E" (Yellow wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 13
.
- Check for open or high resistance in Brown wire between rear quarter window actuator and rear quarter window switch. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, go to step 10
.
- Check for open or high resistance in Black wire between rear quarter window actuator and rear quarter window switch. If problem exists, go to step 11
. If problem does not exist, go to step 15
.
- Repair open or high resistance in Brown wire between rear quarter window actuator and rear quarter window switch. After repair, go to step 18
.
- Repair open or high resistance in Black wire between rear quarter window actuator and rear quarter window switch. After repair, go to step 18
.
- Repair open or high resistance in Yellow wire between rear quarter window switch and instrument panel fuse block. After repair, go to step 18
.
- Repair open or high resistance in Black wire between rear quarter window switch and ground. Ground point is located at base of right "B" pillar. After repair, go to step 18
.
- Check rear quarter window actuator harness connector for poor connections or loose terminals. If problem does not exist, go to step 16
. If problem exists, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 18
.
- Check rear quarter window switch harness connector for poor connections or loose terminals. If problem does not exist, go to step 17
. If problem exists, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 18
.
- Replace defective rear quarter window actuator. After repair, go to step 18
.
- Replace rear quarter window switch. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If problem does not exist, system is okay. If problem exists, go to step 3
.
