Test F: Security Indicator Led Inoperative

NOTE: Theft LED may be referred to as theft deterrent indicator light, or security indicator LED.
  1. If theft deterrent diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If theft deterrent diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform THEFT DETERRENT DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Arm Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) system. Observe theft LED. If theft LED does not illuminate, go to next step. If theft LED illuminates, inspect for intermittents. See TROUBLE SHOOTING  .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Blue 32-pin harness connector C2. BCM is located behind right side of instrument panel, right of glove box. Connect a fused jumper wire between ground and BCM harness connector C2 terminal D15 (Yellow wire). See Figure . If theft LED does not illuminate, go to next step. If theft LED illuminates, go to step  6 .
  4. Disconnect theft LED harness connector. Connect a test light between ground and theft LED harness connector Orange wire terminal. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  8 .
  5. Inspect Yellow wire for an open or short to voltage between theft LED harness connector and BCM harness connector C2 terminal D15. See Figure . If problem does not exist, go to step  7 . If problem exists, repair Yellow wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  11 .
  6. Inspect BCM harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  9 . If problem exists, repair BCM harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  11 .
  7. Inspect theft LED harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  10 . If problem exists, repair theft LED harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  11 .
  8. Repair open or short to ground in Orange wire between theft LED and underhood junction block. After repair, go to step  11 .
  9. Replace BCM. Program BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE PROGRAMMING/REGULAR PRODUCTION OPTION CONFIGURATION under PROGRAMMING in BODY CONTROL MODULES - MONTANA, SILHOUETTE & VENTURE article. After repair, go to step  11 .
  10. Replace theft LED. After repair, go to next step.
  11. Operate system to verify repair. If system is not operating correctly, repeat test beginning at step  3 .
