DTC 3: Courtesy Lights Control Circuit: Testing

  1. If lighting diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform LIGHTING DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If lighting diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step.
  2. Close all doors. Turn Instrument Panel (IP) dimmer switch to OFF position. Turn interior lights override switch located in overhead console to ON position (courtesy lights enabled). Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with engine off. If footwell courtesy lights do not illuminate, go to next step. If footwell courtesy lights illuminate go to step  4 .
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect BCM Natural 8-pin harness connector C1. Connect a fused 10-amp jumper wire between ground and BCM harness connector C1 terminal "F" (Gray/Black wire). See Figure . If footwell courtesy lights illuminate, go step  5 . If footwell courtesy lights do not illuminate, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect BCM Natural 8-pin harness connector C1. Connect a fused 10-amp jumper wire between battery voltage and BCM harness connector C1 terminal "E" (Dark Blue wire). See Figure . If footwell courtesy lights illuminate, go step  6 . If footwell courtesy lights do not illuminate, go to step  7 .
  5. Repair short to voltage in Gray/Black wire between ground and BCM harness connector C1 terminal "F". See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After repair, go to step  8 .
  6. Repair short to ground in Gray/Black wire between ground and BCM harness connector C1 terminal "F". See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After repair, go to step  8 .
  7. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Program feature customization settings. See ENTER FEATURE CUSTOMIZATION MODE  under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to next step.
  8. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect all disconnected components. Open any vehicle door for 10 seconds. Close all vehicle doors. Remove BCM PRGRM (10-amp) fuse. Turn ignition switch to ACC position and count chime tones to identify BCM type. Within one second, cycle ignition switch from ACC position to LOCK position, then back to ACC position. Count chime tones for any BCM DTCs stored. If any BCM DTCs exist, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See BODY CONTROL MODULE DTC INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no chime tones are heard, no BCM DTCs exist and system is okay.
