Diagnostic Procedures
- Perform diagnostic system check. See POWERTRAIN DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, clear DTC. Operate vehicle within FREEZE FRAME conditions. Recheck DTCs. If DTC resets, go to next step. If DTC does not reset, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect KS harness connector. Using a DVOM connected to ground, probe KS sensor harness connector terminal (Black wire). Turn ignition on, with engine off. If voltage reading is 4-5 volts, go to next step. If voltage reading is not 4-5 volts, go to step 6 .
- Turn ignition off. Reconnect KS harness connector. Using DVOM connected to ground, backprobe PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 3 (Black wire). Start engine. Monitor output of KS signal with engine running. If voltage reading is 0.90-3.98 volts, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If voltage reading is not 0.90-3.98 volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Replace knock sensor. After replacing sensor, go to step 8 .
- Turn ignition off. Check for open in Black wire between KS and PCM. Ensure terminal connection at sensor is good. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 8 . If circuit is okay, go to next step.
- Replace PCM. Perform PCM relearn procedure. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING. After replacing PCM, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle within the conditions for running the DTC. See CODE ENABLE CRITERIA . If DTC runs and passes, go to next step. If DTC resets, go to step 2 .
- Using scan tool, observe stored information and Capture Info. If scan tool displays any undiagnosed DTCs, diagnose affected DTCs. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no other DTCs are displayed, system is okay.
