Cruise Control Indicator Inoperative
- Turn ignition switch to START position. Drive vehicle at more than 25 mph, turn cruise control switch to ON position and press cruise control mode SET switch to activate cruise control system. If CRUISE indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If CRUISE indicator illuminates, check for intermittent problem. See INTERMITTENT SIMULATION
under DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect cruise control servo 12-pin harness connector. Cruise control servo is located on right side of engine compartment, near strut tower. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a fused jumper wire (5-amp), connect cruise control servo harness connector terminal No. 4 (Green/Yellow wire) to ground. If CRUISE indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If CRUISE indicator illuminates, go to step 6
.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove instrument cluster. See appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article. Disconnect instrument cluster Gray 16-pin harness connector. Measure resistance in Gray/Yellow wire between instrument cluster Gray harness connector terminal No. 16 and cruise control servo 12-pin harness connector terminal No. 4. See Figure
and Fig 1
. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 2 ohms, repair as necessary and retest system.
- Remove and inspect CRUISE indicator in instrument cluster. If CRUISE indicator is okay, go to next step. If CRUISE indicator is blown, replace indicator and retest system.
- Repair or replace instrument cluster printed circuit and retest system. See appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article.
- Check system for intermittent problem. See INTERMITTENT SIMULATION
under DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS. If problem still exists, go to next step. If problem is located, repair as necessary and retest system.
- Replace cruise control servo and retest system. See CRUISE CONTROL SERVO
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
