Test B: Cruise Control Indicator Inoperative

  1. Review system description and operation prior to performing test. See DESCRIPTION & OPERATION  .
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Press cruise control switch to on. If CRUISE control indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If CRUISE control indicator illuminates, diagnose intermittent condition. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect cruise control module 16-pin harness connector. Cruise control module is located under right side of instrument panel, behind glove box. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a fused jumper wire, connect ground to cruise control module harness connector terminal No. 4 (Green/Red wire). If CRUISE control indicator illuminates, go to next step. If CRUISE control indicator does not illuminate, go to step  8 .
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Press cruise control switch to on and hold. Measure resistance between ground and cruise control module harness connector terminal No. 11 (White/Blue wire). See Figure . If resistance is 2 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to step  6 .
  5. Disable air bag. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Disconnect cruise control switch connector from Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) coil. While pressing cruise control switch to on, measure resistance between cruise control switch terminals No. 5 (White wire) and No. 3 (White/Black wire). If resistance is 2 ohms or more, go to step  7 . If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to step  9 .
  6. Inspect cruise control module harness connector for loose or corroded terminals. Check for intermittent condition. See INTERMITTENTS in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article. If concern still exists, go to step  11 . If concern does not exist, go to step  12 .
  7. Inspect cruise control switch harness connector for loose or corroded terminals. Check for intermittent condition. See INTERMITTENTS in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article. If concern still exists, go to step  11 . If concern does not exist, go to step  12 .
  8. Repair open in Green/Red wire between cruise control module and instrument cluster. After repair, go to step  12 .
  9. Repair open in White/Blue wire between cruise control module and cruise control switch. After repair, go to step  12 .
  10. Replace cruise control module. After repair, go to step  12 .
  11. Replace cruise control switch. After repair, go to next step.
  12. Operate system to verify repair. If concern does not exist, system is okay. If concern still exists, go to step  3 .
