Air Bag System Diagnostic System Check
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position and observe air bag indicator. If air bag indicator does not flash 7 times, go to next step. If air bag indicator does flash 7 times, go to step 3 .
- If air bag indicator turns on and stays on steady or does not turn on at all, diagnose air bag concern. For information on air bag DIAGNOSIS & TESTING or DISPOSAL PROCEDURES, see lemon-25(R) AIR BAG SERVICE & REPAIR MANUAL, DOMESTIC & IMPORTED MODELS.
- If air bag indicator does not turn off after flashing 7 times, go to next step. If air bag indicator turns off after flashing 7 times, go to step 8 .
- If air bag indicator flashes 7 times then stays on steady, go to next step. If air bag indicator flashes 7 times and does not stay on steady, diagnose air bag concern. - Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under left side of instrument panel, right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Observe Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) diagnostic trouble code display. If no current DTCs exist, go to next step. If current DTCs exist, go to step 7 .
- If scan tool indicates no data received from Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM), diagnose communication concern. See TEST E: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE under SYSTEM TESTS. If scan tool indicates DTCs exist, diagnose air bag DTCs. - If scan tool displays DTC B1051, B1019 or B1025, diagnose air bag DTCs. If other DTCs are displayed, diagnose from lowest to highest. For information on air bag DIAGNOSIS & TESTING or DISPOSAL PROCEDURES, see lemon-25(R) AIR BAG SERVICE & REPAIR MANUAL, DOMESTIC & IMPORTED MODELS. After repair, go to step 1 .
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under left side of instrument panel, right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, select SIR DISPLAY DTCS function. If history DTCs do not exist, go to next step. If history DTCs do exist, go to step 10 .
- If scan tool indicates no data received from Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM), diagnose communication concern. See TEST E: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE under SYSTEM TESTS. If scan tool indicates data received from SDM, system is okay.
- If history DTC B1071 is displayed, diagnose air bag history DTC. For information on air bag DIAGNOSIS & TESTING or DISPOSAL PROCEDURES, see lemon-25(R) AIR BAG SERVICE & REPAIR MANUAL, DOMESTIC & IMPORTED MODELS. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 1 .
