Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 10 other vehicles, including the 2001 GMC Yukon XL, 2001 GMC Yukon, 2001 GMC Sierra, 2001 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, and 2001 GMC C3500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Record the 10-digit STID number from the label on the new module.
  2. Fig 1: VIU Screws

  3. Install the VIU to the bracket.
  4. Connect the electrical connectors.
  5. Refer to Fastener Notice .

    Install the 2 screws (1) securing the VIU to the bracket.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the screws to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

  6. Install the I/P trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  7. IMPORTANT:

    After replacing the VIU, you must reconfigure the OnStar® system. Failure to reconfigure the system will result in an additional customer visit for repair.

  8. Reconfigure the OnStar® system. Refer to OnStar Reconfiguration (Without TIS 2 Web Gen.3 and prior) .
