Test 2: Front Wipers Operate In Off Position

  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. With wiper/washer switch off, disconnect wiper/washer switch 48-pin connector C201 located to left side of steering column, near base. See Figure . If wiper continues to run, go to next step. If wiper motor parks, check for shorted wires in pigtail to wiper/washer switch. If circuits are okay, replace wiper/washer switch. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
  2. Using DVOM, measure voltage between connector C201, terminal E2 (Dark Green wire) and ground. If voltage is about zero volts, go to step  5 . If voltage is more than one volt, go to next step.
  3. Reconnect wiper/washer switch 48-pin connector C201. Disconnect wiper motor 5-pin connector. Measure voltage between wiper motor connector terminal "D" (Dark Green wire) and ground. If voltage is more than one volt, go to next step. If voltage is less than one volt, replace wiper motor cover assembly. See WIPER MOTOR CIRCUIT BOARD  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Repair short to voltage in Dark Green wire between wiper motor connector terminal "D" and connector C201, terminal E2. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  5. Measure voltage between connector C201, terminal E3 (Gray wire) and ground. If voltage is more than one volt, go to step  7 . If voltage is less than one volt, reconnect wiper/washer switch 48-pin connector C201. Disconnect wiper motor 5-pin connector and go to next step.
  6. Measure voltage between wiper motor 5-pin connector terminal "C" (Purple wire) and ground. If voltage is not 10.5-15 volts, replace wiper motor cover assembly. See WIPER MOTOR CIRCUIT BOARD  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If voltage is 10.5-15 volts, repair short to voltage in Purple wire between wiper motor 5-pin connector terminal "C" and wiper switch connector C201, terminal E4. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  7. Reconnect wiper/washer switch 48-pin connector C201. Disconnect wiper motor 5-pin connector. Measure voltage between wiper motor connector terminal "E" (Gray wire) and ground. If voltage is less than one volt, replace motor cover assembly. If voltage is more than one volt, repair short to voltage in Gray wire between wiper motor connector terminal "E" and wiper switch connector C201, terminal E3. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
