Diagnostic Aids

CKP sensor performance may be affected by temperature. Check CKP sensor operation and internal resistance at various temperatures. Check for water intrusion in CKP sensor wiring harness boots. Check CKP sensor signal rotor for foreign material or damaged teeth. If DTC sets while driving but checks out okay, check for an inadequate CKP sensor circuit shielding. Ensure CKP sensor circuit is properly shielded and drain wire is properly grounded.

An intermittent malfunction may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed-through wire insulation, or a wire broken inside insulation. Inspect harness connectors for backed-out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, or poor terminal-to-wire connections before component replacement.
