Test G: Scan Tool Does Not Communicate With Class 2 Device

  1. Perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with any module on class 2 serial data circuit. If scan tool communicates with any module in the class 2 serial data circuit, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with any module in the class 2 serial data circuit, go to step  6 .
  3. Using scan tool, select the display DTCs function for each module. Record all of displayed DTCs, DTC status and module which set the DTC. If any DTCs recorded are in the range of U1000 to U1255, go to next step. If other "U" DTCs are set, go to step  5 .
  4. If DTC U1000 is the only DTC displayed, diagnose affected DTC.
  5. Diagnose affected DTC(s). After diagnosing DTC(s), perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect scan tool from DLC. Check for poor connections at DLC terminals No 2 and 5. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. After repairs, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If connections are okay, go to next step.
  7. Check for open in DLC terminals No. 5 (ground circuit). Repair as necessary. After repairs, perform, DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  8. Check DLC class 2 serial data circuit for open between terminal No. 2 and BCM connector C2 terminal B7. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. After repairs, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  9. Disconnect PCM harness connector C1, radio connector and instrument cluster connector. Turn on, with engine off. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with BCM through the class 2 serial data circuit. If scan tool communicates with BCM on the class 2 serial data circuit, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with BCM, go to step  11 .
  10. Turn ignition off. Disconnect EBCM harness connector C1. Reconnect PCM harness connector C1. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with BCM or PCM through the class 2 serial data circuit. If scan tool communicates with BCM or PCM on the class 2 serial data circuit, go to step  12 . If scan tool does not communicate with BCM or PCM, go to step  13 .
  11. Turn ignition off. Using scan tool, check class 2 serial data circuit between BCM and components for a short to ground or short to voltage. Turn ignition on, with engine off when testing for short to voltage. Repair as necessary. After repairs, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If circuit is okay, go to step  16 .
  12. Turn ignition off. Disconnect SDM harness connector. Reconnect Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) connector. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with BCM, PCM or IPC through the class 2 serial data circuit. If scan tool communicates with BCM, PCM or IPC on the class 2 serial data circuit, go to step  14 . If scan tool does not communicate with BCM, PCM or IPC, go to step  15 .
  13. Turn ignition off. Check class 2 serial data circuit between PCM and EBCM for short to ground or short to voltage. Turn ignition on, with engine off when testing for short to voltage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. After repairs, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If circuit is okay, go to step  17 .
  14. Turn ignition off. Reconnect SDM harness connector. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with BCM, PCM, IPC or SDM through the class 2 serial data circuit. If scan tool communicates with BCM, PCM, IPC or SDM on class 2 serial data circuit, go to step  21 . If scan tool does not communicate with BCM, PCM, IPC or SDM, go to step  19 .
  15. Turn ignition off. Check class 2 serial data circuit between IPC and SDM for short to ground or short to voltage. Turn ignition on, with engine off when testing for short to voltage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. After repairs, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If circuit is okay, go to step  18 .
  16. Check for poor connections at BCM harness connector. Repair as necessary. After repairs, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If connections are okay, go to step  24 .
  17. Check for poor connections PCM harness connector. Repair as necessary. After repairs, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If connections are okay, go to step  25 .
  18. Check for poor connections at IPC harness connector. Repair as necessary. After repairs, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If connections are okay, go to step  26 .
  19. Turn ignition off. Check class 2 serial data circuit between SDM and EBCM for short to ground or short to voltage. Turn ignition on, with engine off when testing for short to voltage. Repair as necessary. After repairs, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If connections are okay, go to next step.
  20. Check for poor connections at SDM harness connector. Repair as necessary. After repairs, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If connections are okay, go to step  27 .
  21. Turn ignition off. Reconnect EBCM harness connector. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with BCM, PCM, IPC, EBCM or SDM through the class 2 serial data circuit. If scan tool communicates with BCM, PCM, IPC, EBCM or SDM on the class 2 serial data circuit, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with BCM, PCM, IPC, EBCM or SDM, go to step  23 .
  22. Check for poor connections at radio harness connector. Repair as necessary. After repairs, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If connections are okay, go to step  28 .
  23. Check for poor connections EBCM harness connector. Repair as necessary. After repairs, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If connections are okay, go to step  29 .
