Diagnosis & Testing: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix, 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, and 1996 Buick Regal. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: For more information on ABS diagnosing and testing, see ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM article in BRAKES section.
NOTE: To diagnose Variable Effort Steering (VES) system, manufacturer recommends using Tech 1 scan tool and DVOM.

The EBCM has self-diagnostic capability, which can detect system failures. Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) stored by EBCM can be displayed using scan tool. See USING TECH 1 SCAN TOOL. Begin VES system diagnosis with PRE-DIAGNOSTIC INSPECTION  procedure.
