Description & Operation: Notes

WARNING: To avoid injury from accidental air bag deployment, read and carefully follow all SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM procedures in appropriate AIR BAG article in the ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT Section.

Cruise control system operates a mechanical linkage to throttle by means of a vacuum motor. A solenoid-driven valve connects vacuum motor to a vacuum tank. A vent solenoid vents vacuum when brake and/or clutch pedal (on M/T models) is depressed, or when cruise switch is turned to OFF position. Cruise control module controls a vacuum motor and throttle by pulsing solenoid valves on and off.

Cruise control module monitors vehicle speed, disengage, cruise ON, SET and RESUME/ACCELERATE (R/A) inputs to determine control of vent and vacuum control solenoids. When Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR) is active, cruise control is switched OFF.
