Code A096 - BRAKELIGHT Circuit Open: Notes

This test is used to identify cause of Code A095 failure and advise driver ABS is still available. If Code A095 appears with Code A096, then either brakelights are open, brakelight ground is open, or Center High-Mounted Stoplight (CHMSL) is open during 4-way flasher operation. ABS warning light will flash to indicate malfunction, but ABS will not be disabled.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. A false Code A096 may set due to brake switch circuit malfunction. If any other brake switch codes are present, proceed to that code first.
  2. This test confirms that fault is currently present in brake circuit.
