Ignition Coil Resistance Check
Externally Mounted Ignition Coil
- Remove coil connector. Using the low scale, connect ohmmeter leads to coil's battery and "TACH" terminals. See Figure. Resistance should be 0-1 ohm. If not, replace ignition coil.
- Set ohmmeter to high scale and connect leads to battery terminal and a good ground on coil. See Figure. Resistance reading should be infinity. If not, replace ignition coil.
- With ohmmeter still set in high range, connect leads to "TACH" terminal and to secondary terminal. See Figure. Resistance should be 6,000-30,000 ohms. If not, replace ignition coil.
