Removal Procedure

  1. Relieve the low and high side fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Remove the thermostat housing. Refer to Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Replacement (LFX, LF3) .

  3. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the high pressure fuel pump.
  4. Remove the low pressure feed pipe. Fuel Feed Pipe Replacement (LFX At Engine) Fuel Feed Pipe Replacement (At Tank FWD) Fuel Feed Pipe Replacement (At Tank AWD) 
  5. Remove the high pressure pipe. Fuel Feed Intermediate Pipe Replacement (LFX) 
    6. CAUTION:

    Alternately loosen the fuel pump bolts one turn at a time until the pump is fully disengaged from fuel pump lifter follower. Trying to remove the pump bolts without even side-to-side loosening may result in pump plunger damage

  6. Remove and DISCARD the high pressure fuel pump bolts (1).
  7. Remove the high pressure fuel pump (2).
  8. Remove and DISCARD the high pressure fuel pump O-ring (3).
  9. Remove and DISCARD the high pressure fuel pump gasket (4).
  10. Remove the high pressure fuel pump roller lifter (5).
