Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.NOTE: The intermediate wheel drive shaft and the front differential carrier are to be removed as an assembly.
- Drain the differential assembly. Refer to Front Differential Carrier Lubricant Replacement .
- Lower the drivetrain and front suspension frame assembly. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Removal and Installation .
- Remove the front propeller shaft from the differential and position out of the way. Refer to Front Axle Propeller Shaft Replacement (LGX, LGW) .
- Remove the left front wheel drive shaft. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Left Side .
- Remove the right front wheel drive shaft. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Right Side .
- Remove the front wheel drive intermediate shaft housing. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Housing Replacement .
- Remove the heater coolant pump bracket bolts and reposition the pump from the differential. Refer to Heater Coolant Pump Replacement (LTG without HP9)Heater Coolant Pump Replacement (LGW)Heater Coolant Pump Replacement (LGX)Heater Coolant Pump Replacement (LTG with HP9) .
- Using the engine support fixture, carefully lower the engine assembly enough to allow the front differential carrier assembly to be removed through the right wheel opening.
- Position a transmission jack beneath the front differential carrier (2).
- Firmly secure the front differential carrier to the transmission jack.
- Remove the front differential carrier (2) to front oil pan mounting bolts (1).
- Remove the front differential carrier (2) to rear oil pan mounting bolts (1).
- Remove the intermediate wheel drive shaft (2) and the front differential carrier assembly (1) from the oil pan (3).
- Remove the front differential carrier assembly from the vehicle.
