Cruise Control System Check

Step Action Yes No
1 1. Drive the vehicle above 25 mph.
2. Press and release the SET/ACCEL button.
3. Remove foot from accelerator pedal.
Normal Results: Vehicle maintains set speed.
Does the cruise control engage and maintain set speed?
Go to Step 3 Go to Step 2
2 Refer to Cruise Control Inoperative  for diagnosis.
Is the repair procedure complete?
System OK -
3 1. Press and hold the SET/ACCEL button until speed is increased by 4-5 mph.
2. Release the SET/ACCEL button.
Normal Results: Vehicle accelerates and maintains a new higher set speed.
Does the vehicle accelerate and maintain the new higher set speed?
Go to Step 5 Go to Step 4
4 Refer to Cruise Control Does Not Resume, Accel, Tap Up or Down  for diagnosis. Is the repair procedure complete? System OK -
5 1. Press and hold the RESUME/DECEL button until vehicle speed decreases by 4-5 mph.
2. Release the RESUME/DECEL button.
Normal Results: Vehicle decelerates and maintains a new lower set speed, provided that speed is above 25 mph.
Does the vehicle decelerate and maintain the new lower set speed?
Go to Step 6 Go to Step 4
6 Press the brake pedal slightly.
Normal Results: Cruise control disengages. (Memory is unchanged.)
Does the cruise control disengage?
Go to Step 8 Go to Step 7
7 Refer to Cruise Control Does Not Disengage with Brake Pedal  for diagnosis.
Is the repair procedure complete?
System OK -
8 Press the cruise control RESUME/DECEL button once and release.
Normal Results: Vehicle accelerates to and maintains previous set speed.
Does the cruise control accelerate and maintain previous set speed?
Go to Step 9 Go to Step 4
9 Press the SET/ACCEL button once (tap-up) and release (less than 3/4 of a second).
Normal Results: Vehicle speed increases by 1-4 mph and maintains new set speed.
Does the vehicle speed increase by 1-4 mph and maintain new speed?
Go to Step 10 Go to Step 4
10 Press the RESUME/DECEL button once (tap-down) and release (less than 3/4 of a second).
Normal Results: Vehicle speed decreases by 1-4 mph and maintains new set speed.
Does the vehicle speed decrease by 1-4 mph and maintain new speed?
Go to Step 11 Go to Step 4
11 Set the cruise switch to OFF.
Normal Results: Cruise control disengages with memory unchanged. The cruise control set memory is erased when you turn off the ignition switch.
Does the cruise control disengage?
System OK Go to Step 7
