DTC 41 Right Front Abs Valve Solenoid Fault: Notes

Right front valve solenoid in BPM valve may be commanded to 3 different positions by EBTCM/EBCM. Valve position is determined by amount of current which is allowed to flow through valve solenoid coil.

Valve solenoid circuits receive power through valve relay on BPM valve. Valve relay is engaged at key ON, and remains engaged throughout ignition cycle. Valve solenoid circuits should have battery voltage available at all times.

When ignition switch is turned to RUN position, power is supplied to EBTCM/EBCM. EBTCM/EBCM will complete an internal self-check before providing ground to valve relay. When valve relay is energized, battery voltage is supplied to valve solenoids.

DTC 41 sets when expected position of right front valve solenoid does not match commanded position from EBTCM/EBCM. Conditions that could cause DTC 41 to set are damage to right front valve solenoid, open circuit, or short circuit to ground or battery voltage on circuit No. 857.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. Damage to circuit No. 886 may result in multiple valve solenoid DTCs.
  2. Checks circuit No. 886 for opens or high resistance between EBTCM/EBCM terminals No. 23 and 32.
  3. Determines which branch of circuit No. 886 has an open or high resistance.
  4. Checks integrity of circuits No. 857 and 886, right front ABS valve solenoid circuitry internal to BPM modulator valve, and right front ABS valve solenoid coil.
  5. Determines whether problem found in step 4) is caused by an open in circuit No. 857 or 886, or faulty BPM valve.
  6. Determines whether problem found in step 4) is caused by an open in circuit No. 857 or 886.
  7. Checks for short to battery voltage in circuit No. 886 using terminal No. 20 as ground.
  8. Checks for short to battery voltage in circuit No. 857 using terminal No. 20 as ground.
  9. Checks for short to ground in circuit No. 886 using terminal No. 20 as ground.
  10. Checks for short to ground in circuit No. 857 using terminal No. 20 as ground.
  11. Checks wiring and connectors for intermittents.
  12. Use Tech 1 to activate right front ABS valve solenoid and check for correct operation.
  13. Checks whether DTC was set by an intermittent condition or EBTCM/EBCM fault.
