Pcm Code E73, Intermittent Coolant Temperature Sensor Signal: Action

PCM Code E73 will set. SERVICE ENGINE SOON light is not turned on.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. Connect DVOM or high impedance analog voltmeter positive lead to jumper harness terminal "B" and negative lead to jumper harness terminal "A". Temperature and coolant sensor voltage (see graph) should match. If reading has shifted, replace coolant sensor and retest.
  2. A scan tester or voltmeter and jumper wires can alternately be used to observe changes.
  3. Since coolant temperature cannot change rapidly, a sudden temperature change occurring at idle as engine is warming or idling hot most likely indicates a faulty coolant sensor.
