Specific Test Selection (Explanation)

  1. Following the selection of a system (see STEP 1: SYSTEM SELECTION) and a test type (see STEP 2: TEST TYPE SELECTION), the first of many specific tests becomes available for selection. Selecting a specific test is the process of selecting the specific component or circuit to be tested.
  2. Specific tests are displayed as a 4-character code, the first 2 characters of which are letters, respectively identifying both the SYSTEM and TEST TYPE selected in STEP 1: SYSTEM SELECTION and STEP 2: TEST TYPE SELECTION. For example: If the BCM system was selected in STEP 1: SYSTEM SELECTION and DATA test type was selected in STEP 2: TEST TYPE SELECTION, the letters "BD" will be the first 2 characters of the 4-character specific test selection display. "BD" stands for BCM DATA.
  3. The 2-letter code for the SYSTEM and TEST type selection made in STEP 1 and STEP 2 will vary depending on which system and test type were selected. See SPECIFIC TEST TYPE LETTER CODE table for complete list of the possible system and test type letter combinations that may appear.
  4. The last 2 characters of the specific test type display are a numbered code which numerically identifies the specific component or circuit to be tested. For example: "BD51" designates BCM DATA, test 51. BCM Data Test 51 is the alternator field display. For complete list of available BCM system and component tests, see SPECIFIC TEST TYPE AVAILABILITY under MANUAL OPERATION OF SELF-DIAGNOSTICS in this article.
