System Turn - on Information
NOTE:
The fixed low blower circuit is energized and the blower motor is operating any time the ignition switch is ON.
The automatic control system control turn-on will occur only when the purge door vacuum actuator receives vacuum and opens the purge door allowing airflow into the passenger compartment. Since vacuum supply to the purge door actuator is controlled by the Solenoid Vacuum valve the solenoid must be energized to open the valve and thus supply vacuum to the purge door actuator.
The solenoid coil may be correctly energized, causing system turn on, in any one of three ways:
- Immediate turn-on will occur when the car interior is warm, requiring air-conditioner operation. Immediate turn-on is possible at this time since the in-car switch has been closed by the in-car sensor and has energized the solenoid coil.
- Delayed turn-on will occur in cold weather until engine coolant has warmed to 120°F and thus closed the heater turn-on switch which in turn then energizes the solenoid coil.
- Immediate turn-on will occur regardless of car interior temperature or engine coolant temperature by moving the selector lever to VENT, FOG, or ICE settings. This action causes an electrical override of both the in-car sensor switch and the heater turn-on switch, thus energizing the solenoid coil.
