Passenger Presence System Re-zeroing Procedure
NOTE:
- Always perform zero point reset after the removal and installation of the seat, the removal of the seat cushion trim attachments, and when disconnecting the passenger presence control module harness connector even if zero point reset has been completed in the past.
- Before the passenger presence system can be re-zeroed the front passenger seat must be completely empty of all items. The presence of any liquid or items on the front passenger seat will affect the calibration and operation of the passenger presence system.
- The Passenger Presence Sensor Learn will fail and set DTC B0081 if the re-zero system test is performed with the following conditions:
- An aftermarket seat heater located too close to the sensor mat
- A scan tool, laptop, or other electronic device is in the seat
- The seat is damp or wet
- The seat back is not in the upright position
- The vehicle is not level
- Vibrations near the vehicle
- Verify the following:
- The temperature is between 32°F to 100°F (0°C to 38°C) before running a re-zero procedure.
- The passenger seat is empty and completely dry.
- The seat back is in the upright position.
- Verify that all SIR and passenger presence system components, connectors, and connector position assurances are properly connected and mounted.
- Install a scan tool.
- Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
- With a scan tool, perform the Passenger Presence Sensor Learn procedure and follow the on screen instructions.
- Verify that the Air Bag Malfunction Indicator at the Instrument Panel Cluster is not flashing and the Passenger Air Bag On Indicator is not illuminated.
- If the Air Bag Malfunction Indicator at the Instrument Panel Cluster is flashing and the Passenger Air Bag On Indicator is illuminated
- If a DTC is set, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Confirm that the seat was empty, upright and no vibrations were near the vehicle.
- Have someone sit in the passenger seat.
- Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Have the person sit on the seat until the indicators turn off.
- Have the person exit and confirm the seat back is in the upright position and empty.
- Perform the Passenger Presence Sensor Learn again with a scan tool.
- Cycle the ignition, and verify the indicators are not illuminated.
- If the Air Bag Malfunction Indicator is flashing and the P14 Passenger Indicator is illuminated, replace the passenger presence module.
- If the Air Bag Malfunction Indicator is not flashing and the P14 Passenger Indicator is not illuminated, all OK.
- Go to next step: If the indicators are not illuminated
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
NOTE:
The presence of current DTCs, other than B0081 11 or B0081 4B, will prevent the passenger presence system from re-zeroing and may set additional DTCs.
