Description & Operation: Notes

WARNING: Vehicles are equipped with air bag supplemental restraint system. Before attempting ANY repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.

Lock actuators are powered and controlled by door modules mounted in individual doors. Driver Door Module (DDM) is master control for door lock system, but Rear Integration Module (RIM) contains program that determines when lock functions are permitted. Interior lock switches are wired to Driver Door Switch Assembly (DDSA) and Passenger Door Module (PDM). DDSA and PDM send lock switch requests to DDM over Simple Bus Interface (SBI) serial data circuit. DDM then sends lock requests to RIM over class 2 serial data circuits. Door lock operation modes are controlled by RIM. RIM examines requested function from DDM, or Remote Function Actuator (RFA), as well as transmission shift selector position and ignition switch position information available over class 2 serial data circuits. RIM determines if a locking function is permitted, and commands DDM to perform function permitted. DDM then sends commands to rest of door modules via SBI to implement selected locking function. All programmable modes of lock system operation are stored in RIM. RIM checks lock function program selected against lock requests, transmission selection and ignition key switch condition to determine if requested function is permitted. If requested function is permitted, RIM then commands DDM to perform lock function over class 2 serial data circuits. DDM commands individual door modules to perform lock function over SBI serial data circuit.
