Diagnostic Procedures
- Perform On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check. After performing OBD system check, go to next step.
- Crank engine. If engine starts and runs, see TESTS W/O CODES article. If engine does not start, go to next step.
- If engine cranks, go to next step. If engine does not crank, diagnose theft deterrent system. See appropriate ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM article in the ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT section.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector C1. Connect a fused jumper wire between PCM connector terminal C1-25 and a 5-volt source (IAT sensor terminal "B" will work). Using DVOM in Hertz (Hz) scale, connect DVOM to ground and PCM harness connector terminal C1-25. If DVOM reads 40-60 Hz, go to step 7). if reading is not as specified, go to next step.
- Check theft deterrent circuit for open, short to ground or short to battery voltage. Repair circuit as necessary. After repairs, go to step 9). If circuit is okay, go to next step.
- Replace theft deterrent module. After replacing module, go to step 9).
- Check PCM connector C1-25 for proper terminal tension. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 9). If terminal is okay, go to next step.
- Replace PCM. Program replacement PCM using required equipment. After repair is completed, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, select DTC, CLEAR INFO function. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Select DTC, SPECIFIC, then enter DTC P1626. Operate vehicle within conditions for setting this DTC. If scan tool indicates that this test ran and passed, go to next step. If scan tool did not indicate that this test ran and passed, repeat step 2).
- Using scan tool, select CAPTURE INFO, REVIEW INFO function. If any undiagnosed DTC(s) are displayed, go to applicable DTC test.
