SECURITY Indicator Light Does Not Turn On

  1. If engine does not crank, check power and ground to decoder module. If power and grounds are okay, replace decoder module. Repeat PASS-KEY II(R) DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK.
  2. If engine does crank, turn ignition off. Disconnect decoder module. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between module harness connector terminal A5 (Dark Green wire) and ground. If battery voltage is not present, go to step 4).
  3. If battery voltage is present, connect a fused jumper wire between module harness connector terminal A5 (Dark Green wire) and ground. If SECURITY light comes on, check module connector. If connection between module and connector is okay, replace decoder module and repeat PASS-KEY II(R) DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK. If SECURITY light does not come on, repair short to voltage in Dark/Green wire. Repeat PASS-KEY II(R) DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK.
  4. If battery voltage is not present in step 2), check if other instrument cluster (Buick) or remote indicator bank (Oldsmobile) indicators came on. If no other indicators came on, problem is instrument panel related. See the appropriate INSTRUMENT PANEL - Eighty Eight, Ninety Eight, INSTRUMENT PANEL - LeSabre, Park Avenue or INSTRUMENT PANEL - Bonneville INSTRUMENT PANEL article. If other indicators came on, go to next step.
  5. Check rear fuse block instrument panel No. 1 fuse. Check wiring and all connectors for a short to ground or open circuit.
