DTC 43, Key Resistor Circuit (CKT Open Or Shorted To Battery): Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1994 Cadillac Fleetwood. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Check ignition key resistor pellet resistance. If resistance is not 307-14,650 ohms, replace key. If resistance is 307-14,650 ohms, go to next step.
- Connect Tech 1 scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Place mass storage cartridge 3000003 into Tech 1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Read PASS-Key II(R) A/D counts. If counts displayed are more than 217, go to step 4). If counts displayed are not more than 217, no problem is found. Problem may be intermittent. Go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Check for poor connections at CCM connector. If connections are okay, reconnect CCM connector and all other components. Clear DTCs and check if DTC resets. If DTC resets, replace CCM. If DTC does not reset, problem may be intermittent. Try to recreate fault while performing test by wiggling wiring and connectors. Check for poor connections at all connectors that may be causing intermittent condition.WARNING: Vehicle is equipped with air bag supplemental restraint system. When locating 2-pin ignition switch lock cylinder harness connector at base of steering column, DO NOT confuse connector with Yellow 2-pin air bag supplemental restraint system connector also located at base of steering column.
- Disconnect 2-pin ignition switch lock cylinder harness connector at base of steering column. Using DVOM and Adapter (J 35616-A), measure voltage between 2-pin ignition switch lock cylinder harness connector (CCM side of harness) terminal "A" and ground. If no voltage is present, repair open in PASS-Key II(R) input circuit. If voltage is greater than 5.1 volts, repair short to battery in PASS-Key II(R) input circuit. If voltage is 4.9-5.1 volts, go to next step.
- Using DVOM and Adapter (J 35616-A), measure voltage between 2-pin ignition switch lock cylinder harness connector (CCM side of harness) terminal "B" and ground. If voltage is greater than one volt, repair short to battery in PASS-Key II(R) return circuit. If voltage is not greater than one volt, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect CCM connector C2. Connect a fused jumper wire between CCM connector C2 terminal C2 and ground. Using adapter, check for continuity between 2-pin ignition switch lock cylinder harness connector (CCM side of harness) terminal "B" and ground. If continuity is not present, repair open or poor connections in PASS-Key II(R) return circuit. If continuity is present, go to next step.
Check for poor connections at all connectors that may be causing intermittent condition.
