Code P1406, EGR Valve Pintle Position (1 Of 2): Notes

PCM constantly monitors the linear EGR valve pintle position sensor to ensure the valve is responding properly to commands from PCM. Code P1406 will set when the following conditions are present.

PCM will illuminate Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) if Code P1406 sets during 2 consecutive key cycles.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. Checks for an EGR valve sticking partially open or an incorrect pintle position sensor feedback signal.
  2. Ensures PCM is capable of controlling EGR pintle position and is reading pintle position feedback signal Properly.
