Code 63 - Solenoid Valve Relay Fault

Solenoid valve relay has a dual function. With ignition on and relay coil not energized, relay provides ground to ANTI-LOCK indicator, causing indicator to come on. This allows ANTI-LOCK indicator to come on when EBCM is disconnected or disabled.

With ignition on and relay coil energized, relay supplies voltage by controlling ground path. Circuit No. 1077 allows EBCM to monitor state of solenoid valve relay to compare with requested state. Code 63 will set if valve relay monitor is at battery voltage when EBCM is not requesting it to be or if EBCM is requesting solenoid valve relay to be energized and valve relay monitor voltage is less than 5 volts.

If Code 63 is set, anti-lock braking is disabled and EBCM turns on ANTI-LOCK indicator for remainder of ignition cycle. If failure is intermittent, EBCM will enable system at next ignition cycle and a history Code 63 will be present.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.

  2. Checks if relay contacts are stuck open.
  3. Checks if relay contacts are stuck closed.
  4. Checks integrity of brake pressure modulator internal circuits.
  5. Checks for good pump motor ground circuit.
  6. Checks for an open in valve relay monitor circuit.
  7. Checks for open in solenoid valve relay coil (switched ground circuit).
  8. Checks for an open in relay coil battery feed circuit.
