Code B127, Gear Selector Switch Circuit (TORONADO Only)
The gear selector switch is mounted on the transaxle assembly. It is a multi-signal switch sending information relative to gear selector position to the BCM and ECM. The gear selector position sensor portion of the switch operates as a variable resistor. Ignition reference voltage is brought to the switch on circuit No. 343. The wiper sends the gear selector position back to the BCM as a voltage signal on circuit No. 356. To reduce variation from voltage, the signal is calculated as a percentage of available reference voltage as to gear selector position.
Code B127 will set if that percentage is either above or below the normal range.
Code B127 will set if circuits No. 343, 356, and 736 are open or grounded, switch faulty or misadjusted, BCM is faulty or terminal contacts on any of these items is dirty or loose.
- Checks BD41 value to determine if gear selector switch is within range or outside the range of normal values which are shown on the code chart.
- With a low BD41 value, fault could be a misadjusted gear selector switch, as well as open or grounded circuits No. 343 or 356. Always try a switch adjustment prior to replacing gear selector switch.
- Cycling the gear selector through its entire range, checks for a faulty reading at any gear position. DO NOT take readings between gears, as the value will be below the normal range. If a low value is found at any particular gear, try adjusting the switch prior to replacement.
- A high value indicates an open in ground side of gear selector switch circuit. The open could be in the switch or in circuit No. 736, up to its splice with the other sensors.
