31 11 001 Replacing Front Axle Support

When supporting components, make sure that:
- the vehicle can no longer be raised or lowered
- the vehicle does not lift off the locating plates on the vehicle hoist.
IMPORTANT:
Before lowering/removing front axle support:
Observe SAFETY INFORMATIONS for raising the vehicle
In order to avoid damage to vehicle hoist, perform weight compensation on vehicle.
Load spring strut domes with sand bags.

Secure engine in installation position with special tool to prevent it from falling down. Refer to 11 00 670 SECURING ENGINE IN INSTALLATION POSITION (N54/N55) or 11 00 670 SECURING ENGINE IN INSTALLATION POSITION (N63) or 11 00 670 SECURING ENGINE IN INSTALLATION POSITION (N63) .
Secure engine in installation position with special tool to prevent it from falling down. Refer to 11 00 670 SECURING ENGINE IN INSTALLATION POSITION (N54/N55) or 11 00 670 SECURING ENGINE IN INSTALLATION POSITION (N63) or 11 00 670 SECURING ENGINE IN INSTALLATION POSITION (N63) .
Necessary preliminary work:
- Lower front axle support . See 31 11 506 LOWERING/RAISING FRONT AXLE SUPPORT (SWZ00-2040) or 31 11 506 LOWERING/RAISING FRONT AXLE SUPPORT (UNIVERSAL LIFTER) .
- Remove BOTH LOWER CONTROL ARMS FROM FRONT AXLE CARRIER .
- Remove BOTH TENSION STRUTS FROM FRONT AXLE CARRIER .
- Undo ANTI-ROLL BAR from front axle support.
- If necessary, release vacuum line for engine mount from front axle support.
Remove both engine mounts from front axle support. Refer to 22 11 011 REPLACING LEFT ENGINE MOUNT (N54, N55) , 22 11 001 REPLACING RIGHT ENGINE MOUNT (N54, N55) or 22 11 001 REPLACING RIGHT ENGINE MOUNT (M57T2) , 22 11 011 REPLACING LEFT ENGINE MOUNT (M57T2) or 22 11 011 REPLACING LEFT ENGINE MOUNT (N63, S63) , 22 11 001 REPLACING RIGHT ENGINE MOUNT (N63, S63) .
Take front axle support down and set down on a suitable surface.
Installation note:
Use previous front axle support as a template for modifying or replacing small parts.
After installation:
- Carry out wheel alignment procedure . See 32 00 150 KDS WHEEL ALIGNMENT WITH VEHICLE LOAD UP TO DESIGN POSITION or 32 00 155 KDS CHASSIS/WHEEL ALIGNMENT CHECK WITH RIDE HEIGHT MEASUREMENT WITHOUT VEHICLE LOAD .
