SITUATION

The on-board computer shows average fuel consumption, although this function has not been selected.

CAUSE

A software error in Low instrument cluster software version SW 11.0 (98MY).

If the outside temperature display function is selected, and a decreasing outside temperature causes the temperature warning (37°F) to be activated, and the outside temperature increases back above 37°F, the display erroneously changes over to average fuel consumption.

CORRECTION

On a customer complaint only, install a Low Instrument Cluster version 15.0, or higher. Software version 15.0 was introduced September 1998.
