TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

Reference Number(s): 61 07 95 (4287), Date of Issue:  September, 1995
BMW: 3 Series (E36)
GROUP: 61 - General Electrical System

SUBJECT

Alignment of EWS II and DME Control Modules Is Not Possible

SITUATION

On E36 vehicles which have a letter in the third position of the GM line of the Central Coding Key (ZCS) (for example, GM: 15B300009), the "EWS-DME Alignment" cannot be performed using "Programming V6.0 A/B." The message "Alignment not carried out" is displayed on the MoDiC. Alignment must be performed whenever an EWS II control module, a DME control module or a DME EPROM is being replaced.

This error does not influence the programming or coding of engine control modules.

CORRECTION

To perform the alignment of EWS II and DME, use the MoDiC diskette "Programming V5.1."

This program is also located on the DIS CD-ROM "Program V4.0" and can be loaded into the MoDiC via DIS.

A corrected version ("Programming V6.1") will be on the DIS CD-ROM "Program V5.0" which is in preparation.
