This Service Information Bulletin (Revision 2) replaces SI B11 07 18 dated January 2020.

INFORMATION
Attached to this Service Information bulletin are repair instructions to fix the damaged 12 mm engine oil drain plug threads in an aluminum engine oil pan.
The tools and procedure will modify the engine oil pan to accept a larger 14 mm engine oil drain plug and seal ring.
The thread repair procedure requires approximately 20 minutes of labor after the engine oil is drained.
This tool kit will be through the Automatic Tool Shipment Program. Additional tools may be purchased through your Regional Distribution Center (RDC). All prices in this bulletin are introductory prices and are only valid during the Automatic Tool Shipment. Refer to SI B04 06 18 for additional information.
Drain plug thread repair tool P/N 83 30 2 461 309 overview:
- Oil cap with regulator
- Air supply hose with valve
- Debris shield
- Boring tool (drill bit)
- Thread forming tap (14mm)
- Alignment pin
- Re-facing tool
BXX Engine Tools:
A new boring tool has been developed to address the challenges the BXX engine oil pans. The new boring bit will not interfere with the engine oil pump or the side wall material of the aluminum oil pan.

The new tool will be through the Automatic Tool Shipment Program. Additional tool can be purchased through your Regional Distribution Center (RDC). Refer to SI B04 02 24 for additional information.
Oil Cap Adapter:
We have developed an adapter to allow existing tools to be used with the new cylinder head cover.
Version 1 oil cap design used in most engines up to 2018 production.
This cap has bayonets (1).
Version 2 oil cap design used in most engines starting with 2018 production.
This cap does not have bayonets (1).

Version 1 tools with bayonets (1) can be used with new production cars when crankcase adapter P/N 83 30 5 A9E C83 (2) is used.
The new tool will be through the Automatic Tool Shipment Program. Additional tool can be purchased through your Regional Distribution Center (RDC). Refer to SI B04 02 24 for additional information.

- These tools can only repair the threads in aluminum engine oil pans.
- The metal cutting and rethreading tools in this kit are sharp-handle them with care.
- Do not attempt to use the tool in a steel engine oil pan or any type of steel material or a steel threaded insert.
- Always use these tools in the forward or clockwise drill rotation, never turn the tools in the reverse or counter clockwise rotation. Dulling of the tools cutting edges will occur if not used properly.
- If a Heli-coil thread repair was already installed in the aluminum engine oil pan then the Heli-coil must be removed before starting this procedure.
- If a Time-Sert threaded insert or similar threaded insert was already installed, then this tool (83 30 2 461 309) cannot be used to repair the threads. The Time-Sert or threaded insert outside diameter is too large for this tool. See Time-Sert and similar threaded insert section for additional details.

Repairing the Oil Pan Drain Plug Thread After a Time-Sert or Similar Threaded Insert is Already Installed

This M16 drain plug thread repair tool can be purchased separately to upgrade the existing tool kit on a case by case basis.
The tool procedure is identical to the instructions attached to this bulletin with the exception that the 16 mm tools will be used instead of the 14 mm tools.
In some cases, the engine oil pan maybe damaged beyond repair if the threaded insert cannot be removed.
The repair kit AGA-ODP-14-16-K includes three replacement 16mm drain plugs for convenience.
The AGA 16 mm replacement engine oil drain plug P/N is AGA-ODP-3.
