Front Motor, Installing
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Scissor Lift Table:VAS 6131B
- Spreader Tool:3424
- Shop Crane:VAS 6100
-- Align the motor to the subframe without tension.
-- Tighten the left and right bolt -arrows-.
-- Remove the Shop Crane:VAS 6100 and lifting tackle.
Base model:
-- Tighten the bolts for the protective housing -arrows-.
Continuation for all vehicles
-- Install the drive axles. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Insert the left and right Spreader Tool:3424 -3- into the slot of the shock absorber fork -arrow- and turn 90°.
-- Drive the subframe upward into installation position using the Scissor Lift Table:VAS 6131B , at the same time thread in the suspension struts into the shock absorber fork.
-- Insert new bolts to the left and right -arrows- and tighten.
-- Remove the locating pins individually in a row, insert a new bolt at this location -1- and tighten.
-- Remove the scissor lift table.
-- Attach the steering intermediate shaft to the steering gear. Refer to STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Check the T pin -1- of the suspension strut for correct seating in the groove -arrow-.
-- Remove the Spreader Tool:3424 .
-- Tighten the threaded connection -2-.
-- Insert the joint pins for the upper control arm -3- into the wheel bearing housing.
-- Tighten the threaded connection -2-.
-- Further installation occurs in the reverse order of removal.
-- After installing the high-voltage components or potential equalization cables a potential equalization measurement must be performed on the corresponding high-voltage components. Refer to the appropriate Service Information Potential Equalization Measurement .
High voltage increases the risk of fatal injury
Electrocution can cause severe bodily or fatal injury.
- Have a high-voltage technician or an high-voltage expert bring the high-voltage system back into service.
-- Refer to High-Voltage System, Re-Energizing .
-- Check the coolant level and fill, if necessary. Refer to FILLING AND BLEEDING THE COOLANT .
If the motor was replaced, perform the test plan for replacing the control module.
-- Perform the Electric Drive Control Module on Front Axle -J1234- replacing function using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester. Refer to Diagnostic Entries .
