Oil Temperature Sensor - G8-, CHECKING

General Description

The signal voltage of the Oil Temperature Sensor -G8- is continuously monitored by the Engine Control Module -J623-. If the signal voltage of the Oil Temperature Sensor -G8- is greater than a defined threshold value for a defined time period, the Engine Control Module -J623- detects an "electrical fault of the Oil Temperature Sensor -G8-, signal voltage out of range high" and the corresponding fault code is stored in the fault memory. This fault is typically caused by a short to battery, but depending on the wiring in the Engine Control Module -J623-, it can also be caused by an open circuit. If the signal voltage of the Oil Temperature Sensor -G8- is less than a defined threshold value for a defined time period, the Engine Control Module -J623- detects "electrical fault of the Oil Temperature Sensor -G8-, signal voltage out of range low" and the corresponding fault code is stored in the fault memory. This fault is typically caused by a short to ground, but depending on the wiring in the Engine Control Module -J623-, it can also be caused by an open circuit.

Test requirements

• Fuses OK.
• Battery voltage OK.
• Switch OFF all electrical and electronic accessories.
• Vehicles with automatic transmission, ensure the selector lever position is in "P".
• Vehicles with manual transmission, ensure the shifter lever position is in "N" with the parking brake applied.
