Brake Fluid, Changing

WARNING:

Warning information for the high voltage system:

For procedures where the ignition must be switched off, refer to PROCEDURES FOR WHICH THE IGNITION NEEDS TO BE SWITCHED OFF .

NOTE:

Use only new Original VW / Audi brake fluid.

WARNING:

Brake fluid must never come into contact with fluids containing mineral oils (oil, gas, cleaning solutions). Oils containing minerals damage seals and rubber grommets on brake systems.
Brake fluid is poisonous. Do not let brake fluid come into contact with paintwork.
Brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning that it absorbs moisture from the surrounding air, and must therefore always be stored in air-tight containers.
Rinse off any leaking brake fluid with water.
Do not reuse used / extracted brake fluid!
Follow all disposal regulations.

-- Remove the cap -1- from the brake fluid reservoir.

-- Extract as much brake fluid as possible using intake hose from the Brake Charger/Bleeding Unit :VAS 5234 with an installed screen.

-- Install the adapter -1- to the brake fluid reservoir.

-- Connect filler hose -2- on Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit :VAS 5234 to adapter.

-- Adjust for the correct pressure on the Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit :VAS 5234 .

NOTE:

Depending on the vehicle equipment, the rear brakes or front wheel and rear wheel brakes may be bled without removing the tires using the Brake Bleeding Tool Set :VAS 6564 .

It is required to remove the wheels for specific tire combinations.

For RHD vehicles, begin with the front right.

Use the bleeder hose delivered with the vehicle. The bleed hose must fit tightly over the bleed screw to prevent air from getting into the brake system.

If there are two bleeder screws (depending on the vehicle equipment) per brake caliper, first connect the inner bleeder screw and then the outer.

The brake fluid level in the reservoir must be high enough so that air cannot get into the brake system.

Do not remove the strainer inside the brake fluid reservoir.

After extracting, observe that no further brake fluid runs into the reservoir (the brake fluid level in the reservoir must align with the lower edge of the strainer).

Front Axle

Brake caliper with two bleeder screws (depending on vehicle equipment).

-- Remove the cap -1- from the bleed screw on the left front brake caliper.

-- Attach the bleed hose container -1- to the bleeder screw on the inside of the wheel rim.

-- Open bleeder screw and let the corresponding amount of brake fluid (see table) flow out.

-- Close bleeder screw.

-- Reattach the brake caliper bleeder screw cap.

-- Repeat the steps for the front right.

Rear Axle

Brake caliper with two bleeder screws (depending on vehicle equipment).

-- Remove both bleeder screw caps -1- from the rear left brake caliper.

-- Select the Brake Bleeding Tool Set :VAS 6564 ratchet and the corresponding socket wrench and connect them.

-- Guide the bleed hose -1- out of the Brake Bleeding Tool Set :VAS 6564 from the inside of the wheel rim through the ratchet -2- and the socket wrench -3-, and attach it to the bleeder screw.

-- Open the bleeder screw using the ratchet -2- and drain the corresponding brake fluid quantity (see table).

-- Close bleeder screw.

-- Guide the bleed hose -1- out of the Brake Bleeding Tool Set :VAS 6564 from the outside of the wheel rim through the ratchet -2- and the socket wrench -3-, and attach it to the bleeder screw.

-- Open the bleeder screw using the ratchet -2- and and drain the corresponding brake fluid quantity (see table).

-- Close bleeder screw.

-- Install the bleeder screw cap on the brake caliper.

-- Repeat the steps for the rear right.

With Manual Transmission

-- Remove the cover cap from the clutch slave cylinder bleed screw.

-- Attach the container bleed hose -1- onto the clutch slave cylinder, open the bleed screw, and drain the appropriate brake fluid quantity (see table). Close bleeder screw and install cover cap.

-- Press the clutch pedal several times.

-- Move filler lever on Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit :VAS 5234 to position -B- (see operating instructions).

-- Remove the filler hose from the adapter.

-- Remove the adapter from the brake fluid reservoir.

-- Check brake fluid level and fill if necessary.

-- Check pedal pressure and brake pedal free play. Free play: max ¹ /₃ of pedal travel
