Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting

Selector lever cable must be adjusted if:

-- Remove the air filter housing, refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (1.8L; 2.0L 4V TFSI Engine (EA 888 Generation II, As of 01/2018), or AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (1.8L; 2.0L 4V TFSI Engine (Generation II, As of 09/2016). Information not available for Air Filter Housing, 1.8L; 2.0L 4V TFSI Engine (EA 888 Generation III, As of 12/2017).

-- Move the selector lever into "P".

-- Loosen the adjusting screw -arrow- on the selector lever cable.

-- Set transmission shift lever on the transmission to "P". Push the selector lever all the way to the rear, opposite the drive direction, to check it.

NOTE:

Make sure the transmission is in "P" (parking lock is engaged) if raising the vehicle. It must not be possible to turn the front wheels.

-- To release selector lever cable tension, carefully move selector lever front and back slightly but do not shift into another selector lever position.

-- Tighten the adjusting screw -arrow-. The position of the selector lever cable must not change while doing this.

Check the Selector Lever Cable Adjustment.

-- Press the button and move the selector lever to the rear approximately 5 mm out of "P" and hold it there. Do not move it into "R".

-- Release selector lever.

-- Move the selector lever into "N".

-- Press the button and move the selector lever forward approximately 5 mm out of "N" and hold it there. Do not move it into "D".

-- Release selector lever.

-- Press the button and move the selector lever forward approximately 5 mm out of "N" and hold it there. Do not move it into "R".

-- Release selector lever.

-- If the selector lever does not react as described, repeat the adjustment.

-- Check the selector mechanism, refer to GEARSHIFT MECHANISM, CHECKING .
