Ignore -item 1-.
Catch any leaking ATF with a cloth.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the ATF line -1- from the transmission.
-- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the Engine Bung Set:VAS 6122 .
There is a risk of destroying the transmission control module (Mechatronic) with electrostatic discharge.
- Do not touch connector terminals in the transmission connector with hands.
-- To discharge static electricity, touch the transmission housing (without wearing gloves).
-- Turn the twist lock counter-clockwise -arrow- and disconnect the connector from the transmission.
-- Free up the wiring harness on the transmission.
-- Loosen the clamp -2- and remove the coolant hose.
Ignore -item 1-.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the heat shield from the right drive axle.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and the left drive axle heat shield.
-- Remove the left and right drive axles from the transmission flange shafts. Refer to Drive Axle, Removing and Installing .
-- Remove the steering intermediate shaft from the steering gear and then push them upward together. Refer to Steering Intermediate Shaft, Removing and Installing .
Vehicles from MY 2014:
-- Disconnect the connector -1- for vehicle signals (CAN bus and terminal 15) from the Power Steering Control Module -J500- by loosening the retainer and pressing the release downward.
-- Loosen the retainer -arrow- and push the release downward to disconnect the voltage connector -2- (terminal 30) from the Power Steering Control Module -J500-.
All Vehicles:
-- Disconnect the connectors -2- for the Engine Speed Sensor -G28- and free up the wire.
Ignore -item 1-.
-- Release the retainers -arrows A- and slide the sleeve -1- on the emergency release cable in the -direction of the arrow B-.

-- Attach the adapter to the vibration damper bolts.
- The hole -arrow A- on the Crankshaft Turning Tool:T40272 must be between the markings -arrows B- on the vibration damper.
If necessary, remove the radiator fan control module.
-- To loosen the clutch module bolts, counterhold the crankshaft using the Wrench - 21mm:T40263 and Crankshaft Turning Tool:T40272 .
When mounting, turn the crankshaft only in the direction of engine rotation -arrow-.
-- Remove the six torque converter bolts -arrow- while turning the crankshaft 60° further in the direction of engine rotation.
-- Remove the starter bolt -1-.
-- Remove the starter from the transmission and leave it in the installation position.
-- Remove the remaining engine/transmission bolts -6 through 11- but leave one bolt -7- installed hand-tight.
Danger of leaks in the ATF pan.
