Engine Temperature Control Sensor -G694-, CHECKING

The Engine Temperature Control Sensor -G694- sends information about the current cylinder head temperature to the Engine Control Module -J623-. It uses the cylinder head temperature as a correction value for calculating the injection quantity.

Test requirements

Fuses OK.
Battery voltage OK.
Switch OFF all electrical and electronic accessories.
Vehicles with Auto. Transmission, ensure Selector Lever position is in "P.".
Vehicles with Manual Transmission, ensure Gear Shift Lever position is in "N" with Parking Brake applied.
Coolant Temperature: ≥ 80° C.

2	IGNITION: OFF. DISCONNECT: Engine Temperature Control Sensor -G694- harness connector. CHECK: Engine Temperature Control Sensor -G694- harness connector terminals 1 to 2 for resistance. SPECIFIED VALUE: 2380 Ω (+/- 1, 500 Ω @ approx. 20° C). IGNITION: OFF. -- Was Value obtained?	-- YES: GO TO Step 3 Engine Temperature Control Sensor -G694-, CHECKING => 3 . -- NO: REPLACE: Engine Temperature Control Sensor -G694-. Refer to appropriate repair manual. GO TO: Step 4 Engine Temperature Control Sensor -G694-, CHECKING => 4 .
3	REMOVE: Engine Control Module - J623-. Refer to appropriate service information. CHECK: Engine Temperature Control Sensor -G694- harness connector terminal 1 to the Engine Control Module - J623- harness connector T94 / 38 for resistance. CHECK: Engine Temperature Control Sensor -G694- harness connector terminal 2 to the Engine Control Module - J623- harness connector T94 / 37 for resistance. SPECIFIED VALUE: 0.5 Ω (± 0.3 Ω). -- Were Values obtained?	-- YES: REPLACE Engine Control Module -J623-. Refer to appropriate repair manual. GO TO: Step 4 Engine Temperature Control Sensor -G694-, CHECKING => 4 . -- NO: CHECK: Wiring for open, high resistance, short or harness connector for damage, corrosion, loose or broken terminals. REPAIR: Faulty wiring or connector. GO TO: Step 4 Engine Temperature Control Sensor -G694-, CHECKING => 4 .
4	Final Procedure Perform a road test to verify repair. Do any DTC's return:	-- YES: Check the DTC memory. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC MODE 03 - READ DTC MEMORY . Perform the diagnostic procedure for that DTC. -- NO: Repair is complete. Generate readiness code. Refer to READINESS CODE . Return vehicle to Customer.
