2.9L - Primary

REMOVAL 

1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the right front wheelhouse splash shield. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, FRONT WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or SHIELD, SPLASH, REAR WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
3. Remove the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BELLY PAN, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BELLY PAN, SIDE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
4. Remove the wheelhouse brace. Refer to BRACE, WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
5. Remove the engine cover. Refer to COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
6. Remove the hood. Refer to HOOD, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
7. Remove the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
8. Remove the middle air cleaner tube. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
9. Remove the secondary Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL (PCM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

10. Disconnect the right side upstream and downstream oxygen sensor wire harness connector (1).

11. Disconnect the primary PCM wire harness connector (1).
12. Remove the bolt (2) and release the engine wiring.

13. Release the oxygen sensor wire harness from the retainers (1) and position aside.

14. Remove the nuts (1a) and bolts (1b) and the right catalytic converter mounting bracket (1c).

15. Remove the PCM bracket lower nut (1).

16. Release the PCM from the wiring and remove the PCM (1) with bracket.

17. If necessary, remove the screws (1a) and separate the PCM from the bracket (1b).

INSTALLATION

1. If removed, install the PCM on the bracket (1a) and tighten the screws (1b).

2. Install the PCM (1) and engage the wire harness connector.

3. Tighten the lower nut (1) securing the PCM bracket to the body.

4. Install the right catalytic converter support bracket (1a) and tighten the bolts (1b) and nuts (1c) to the proper to the proper torque specification. Refer to Torque Specifications .

5. Engage the oxygen sensor wire harness to the retainers (1).

6. Place the wire harness in position and securely tighten the bolt (2).
7. Connect the primary PCM wire harness connector (1).

8. Connect the right side upstream and downstream oxygen sensor wire harness connector (1).
9. Install the secondary PCM. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL (PCM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
10. Install the middle air cleaner tube. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
11. Install the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
12. Install the hood. Refer to HOOD, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
13. Install the engine cover. Refer to COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
14. Install the wheelhouse brace. Refer to BRACE, WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
15. Install the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BELLY PAN, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BELLY PAN, SIDE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
16. Install the right front wheelhouse splash shield. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, FRONT WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or SHIELD, SPLASH, REAR WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
17. Connect the negative battery cable.
18. Using the diagnostic scan tool, program the PCM. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL (PCM), MODULE PROGRAMMING .
