Removal And Installation: 2.0L

REMOVAL 

NOTE:

If this Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is being replaced with a new unit, use a diagnostic scan tool to perform the Flash Programming Procedure (if available). This will confirm that the module is updated to the latest applicable software level.

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the strut bar. Refer to BRACE, ENGINE BOX REINFORCEMENT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Remove the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  4. Disconnect the wire harness connectors (1) from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

  5. Remove the ground strap nut (1) and ground strap.
  6. Remove the PCM retaining bolts (2a) and PCM (2b).

    NOTE:

    If PCM bracket needs to be removed proceed with the following steps.

  7. Remove the two lower PCM bracket to body mounting nuts (1a).

  8. Remove the three PDC bracket (1b) to body mounting nuts (1a).

  9. Disengage the wire harness connector (1a) and wire harness (1b) from the PDC bracket (2) and remove from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION 

NOTE:

If this Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is being replaced with a new unit, use a diagnostic scan tool to perform the Flash Programming Procedure (if available). This will confirm that the module is updated to the latest applicable software level.

  1. If removed, position the PCM bracket, and engage the wire harness and wire harness connector to the PCM bracket.
  2. Install the three upper PCM bracket to body mounting nuts and tighten securely.
  3. Install the two lower PCM bracket to body mounting nuts and tighten securely.
  4. Position the PCM on the vehicle.

  5. Using the PCM retaining bolts (1b), secure the PCM. Tighten the bolts to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  6. Connect the ground strap and secure using the ground strap nut (2).
  7. Connect the two PCM wire harness connectors.
  8. Install the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10. Perform the PCM programming procedure. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL (PCM), MODULE PROGRAMMING .
NOTE:

If this Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is being replaced with a new unit, a diagnostic scan tool MUST be used to determine if alignment of the PROXI configuration data into the new ECU is needed. If PROXI alignment is needed, follow the routine outlined in the diagnostic scan tool for PROXI Configuration Alignment under the Body Control Module (BCM) Miscellaneous Functions menu.
