Description And Operation
On vehicles that are equipped with the 2.0L engine, the Engine Sound Enhancement Module (ESEM) receives input signals from the microphone, processes the input signals using software, amplifies the input signals and then outputs those signals in the form of sound in the passenger compartment.
In addition to the signal from the microphone, the ESEM receives information on engine load, engine Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) and vehicle speed from the Body Control Module (BCM) to create the most suitable engine sound affect. The sound is emitted by a speaker placed in the middle of the instrument panel.
In addition to managing the sound creation strategies, the module records Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC)s.
The speaker is directly connected to the ESEM instead of the amplifier if the vehicle is equipped with ESEM and the premium sound system. The amplifier sends the signal to the ESEM, which mixes it with the signals coming from the microphone and the BCM to generate the best sound to be played in the passenger compartment. The module receives the power needed for operation from the rear Power Distribution Center (PDC).
The module is fastened to a bracket. The bracket is fastened to the vehicle floor pan near the front of the passenger seat.
