Description And Operation
The SCCM does not integrate the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS). The SAS is located in the steering gear.
The Steering Column Controls Module (SCCM) has two multifunctional stalks which perform the following functions:
Right stalk

The right SCCM stalk is control for the windshield wiper/washer operation switch. The windshield wiper operating switch has five positions. The first position (position 0, switch all down) is used to deactivate the windshield wiper. Positions 1 and 2 are for automatic windshield wiper activation. Positions 1 and 2 in automatic operation establish the rain sensor sensitivity. If it starts raining when the switch is in these two positions (1 or 2) the stalk must be tipped upwards to make the wiper start. Positions 3 and 4 allow the manual activation of the windshield wiper at slow and high speed.
The windshield washer system is activated by pulling the stalk towards the driver. Pushing the stalk up will activate the mist function (one wipe only) The neutral position of the stalk is the central position. The other positions (up, down, back towards the driver and forwards) are toggle positions.

Left stalk

The left stalk of the SCCM is used to operate the right and left direction indicators. The indicators are activated in the usual manner by moving the stalk upwards or downwards. Unlike some other vehicles, the stalk does not click and hold the selected position (downwards or upwards) when a direction indicator is selected. The only neutral position of the left stalk is the central position. When the left direction indicator is operated (for example) and the steering wheel is turned, the stalk will instantaneously go back to the central position. The direction indicator will not be deactivated when the steering wheel is realigned in straight position. The stalk must be tipped downwards to deactivate the direction indicator.
The high beams are activated by moving the stalk forward. The high beam flash spot function is operated by pulling the stalk towards the driver. Both positions (forwards and backwards) are toggle positions.

The switch is stable in position 3. The other positions are toggle positions.

The SCCM has seven connectors; three on the front and four on the back.

The SCCM cannot be adjusted or repaired. If ineffective or damaged or the DAB has been deployed, the entire SCCM must be replaced.
