Removal And Installation

NOTE:

If this Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is being replaced with a new unit, use a diagnostic scan tool to perform the Flash Programming Procedure (if available). This will confirm that the module is updated to the latest applicable software level.

REMOVAL

Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
Remove the appropriate rear wheel. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Remove the fasteners (1a) securing the wheel housing splash shield (1b) to the rear fascia.
Using the appropriate tool, remove the retainers (2a).
Lift the edge (3a) of the wheelhouse splash shield to gain access to the Blind Spot Module (BSM).

Working on the inner side of the bumpers, remove the wiring (1a) from the retainer (1b).
Disengage the retainer (2a) and pull out the BSM (2b).
Disconnect the wiring harness connector (3a) from the BSM.
Remove the BSM from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION

Inspect the BSM and the wiring harness integrity.

Connect the wiring harness connector (1a) to the BSM (1b).
Install the BSM in place and engage the retainer (2a).
Install the wiring harness (3a) to the wiring harness retainer (3b).

Reposition the wheelhouse splash shield (1a).
Install the retainers (2a).
Tighten the fasteners (3a) securing the wheel house splash shield (1a) to the rear fascia.
Install the appropriate rear wheel. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
Connect the negative battery cable.

NOTE:

If this Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is being replaced with a new unit, a diagnostic scan tool MUST be used to determine if alignment of the PROXI configuration data into the new ECU is needed. If PROXI alignment is needed, follow the routine outlined in the diagnostic scan tool for PROXI Configuration Alignment under the Body Control Module (BCM) Miscellaneous Functions menu.
