Three Way Catalytic Converter Inspection: Inspection

How to use this manual .

TWC 

1. TWC - Inspect

   Preconditions 

   • TWC Removed
   • • Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) (2.0 L Engine) - Refer to: Catalytic Converter/Turbocharger Area(3.0L Engine) or Catalytic Converter/Turbocharger Area(2.0L Engine)
     • Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) (3.0 L Engine) - Refer to: Catalytic Converter/Turbocharger Area(3.0L Engine) or Catalytic Converter/Turbocharger Area(2.0L Engine)

   Procedure/Specifications 

   1. Plug up the hole(s) other than main exhaust gas route.

   2. Using a flashlight, visually check for plugging, melting, or cracking of the catalyst.

   Specifications 

   Specification
   Not plugged, melted, or cracked

   Result 

   • If it is abnormal, replace the TWC.
   • • Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) (2.0 L Engine) - Refer to: Catalytic Converter/Turbocharger Area(3.0L Engine) or Catalytic Converter/Turbocharger Area(2.0L Engine)
     • Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) (3.0 L Engine) - Refer to: Catalytic Converter/Turbocharger Area(3.0L Engine) or Catalytic Converter/Turbocharger Area(2.0L Engine)

   Under-Floor TWC 

2. Under-Floor TWC - Inspect

   Preconditions 

   • Under-Floor TWC Removed - Refer to: Catalytic Converter/Turbocharger Area(3.0L Engine) or Catalytic Converter/Turbocharger Area(2.0L Engine)

   Procedure/Specifications 

   1. Plug up the hole(s) other than main exhaust gas route.

   2. Using a flashlight, visually check for plugging, melting, or cracking of the catalyst.

   Specifications 

   Specification
   Not plugged, melted, or cracked

   Result 

   • If it is abnormal, replace the under-floor TWC - Refer to: Catalytic Converter/Turbocharger Area(3.0L Engine) or Catalytic Converter/Turbocharger Area(2.0L Engine) .
