DTC P0010: Variable Valve Timing Control (VTC) Oil Control Solenoid Valve Malfunction: General Description

The variable valve timing control (VTC) consists of the VTC actuator, the VTC oil control solenoid valve, sensors, and the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM controls the VTC oil control solenoid valve by duty cycle and supplies hydraulic pressure to the advance chamber or the retard chamber in the actuator so the valve timing is optimized depending on the driving conditions (engine load, engine speed, and vehicle speed). If the current, when compared to the output duty cycle, is out of a set value, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.
