Code L: Mode Control Motor

  1. Disconnect mode control motor 10-pin harness connector. Disconnect climate control unit 12-pin "A" and 20-pin "B" harness connectors. Check continuity between ground and terminals A1 (Blue/Black wire) and A6 (Blue/White wire) of climate control unit 12-pin harness connector "A". Check continuity between ground and terminals B15 (Yellow/Green wire), B17 (Green/Black wire), B18 (Green/Yellow wire), B19 (Light Green/Black wire) and B20 (Blue/Green wire) of climate control unit 20-pin harness connector "B". If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in wire(s) between climate control unit and air mix control motor.
  2. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between ground and terminals A1 (Blue/Black wire) and A6 (Blue/White wire) of climate control unit 12-pin harness connector "A". Check voltage between ground and terminals B15 (Yellow/Green wire), B17 (Green/Black wire), B18 (Green/Yellow wire), B19 (Light Green/Black wire) and B20 (Blue/Green wire) of climate control unit 20-pin harness connector "B". If voltage does not exist, go to next step. If voltage exists, repair short to voltage in wire(s) between climate control unit and air mix control motor.
  3. Turn ignition off. Check continuity in Blue/White and Blue/Black wires between 12-pin climate control unit harness connector "A" and mode control motor 10-pin harness connector. Check continuity in Light Green/Black, Blue/Green, Green/Black, Green/Yellow, and Yellow/Green wires between 20-pin climate control unit harness connector "B" and mode control motor 10-pin harness connector. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open circuit in wire(s) between climate control unit and mode control motor 10-pin harness connector.
  4. If continuity exists, check for loose wires or poor connections at climate control unit 12-pin and 20-pin harness connectors, and mode control motor 10-pin harness connector. If connections are okay, substitute known-good climate control unit and recheck. See CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If symptom does not exist with known-good climate control unit, replace original climate control unit.
