Compressor Clutch

Check plated parts of pressure plate for color changes, peeling or any other signs of damage. If any damage is found, replace compressor clutch set. Check pulley bearing for excessive play or drag. Replace pulley if problem is found.

Using a dial indicator, measure clearance between pulley and pressure plate. Measure movement of pressure plate when voltage is applied. Clearance should be .014-.026" (10-20 mm). If clearance is not with in specified limits, the pressure plate clearance must be adjusted. Shims are available in .004" (.1 mm), .012" (.3 mm) and .020" (.5 mm) thicknesses.

Check resistance of compressor clutch coil. Connect meter between ground and clutch wiring harness connector. Resistance should be 3.4-3.8 ohms at 68°F (20°C). replace compressor clutch coil if not within specifications. See COMPRESSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
