A/C Control System
With A/C and blower motor switches on, A/C control unit sends a signal through pressure switch to radiator fan control unit. If evaporator temperature is greater than 39°F (4°C), radiator fan control unit activates cooling fans and sends a signal to engine control unit.
Engine control unit increases engine idle speed and turns on A/C compressor. When evaporator sensor temperature drops to less than 37°F (3°C), sensor signals engine control unit to turn off cooling fans and compressor. If refrigerant pressure becomes too high or too low, pressure switch signals cooling fan control unit, which inhibits A/C system operation.
When refrigerant pressure is too high because of heavy use in high temperatures, pressure switch is activated to increase cooling fan speed. A/C system is shut off if coolant temperature reaches 228°F (109°C).
